Jasper, AB

Hi Everyone Another rainy day.  We only hope that all this rain and snow helps those fires that are affecting this country.   This past Monday we left Golden for a scheduled 4.5 hour drive to Whistler Campground just outside Jasper, AB.  It is the largest provincial parks in Canada.  Something like 710 sites.  It is a gorgeous park.  We stayed here 7 years ago and couldn't wait to comeback.  The park was thick with pine trees and a large heard of Elk lived in the park among the visitors.  Unfortunately, the park was attacked by that terrible beetle that kills the tree.  In order to save the park and surrounding forest,  Canada Parks removed many of the dead and dying trees.  It is a terrible loss and the park is not the same.  You will see below…. So, we left Golden under light rain and it continued for most of the drive.  Temperatures were in the 40s F.  We entered Jasper National Park and everyone was bei...

Golden, BC

Here we are, on our last day in Golden British Columbia.  It is a small town on the western edge of BC.  Its population of 3700 residents makes it about 6 times larger than Radium Hot springs.   It is a destination town for the residents of BC who Come here to play during all 4 seasons.  It is situated between the Columbia Mountains to the west, and Rocky Mountains to the east, as well as the Columbia River and Kicking Horse River. The views from our site is awesome and we have yet to tire looking at its peaks.  This is the view right outside our door: In town just a block away from IGA (Independent Grocery Store) found in both US and Canada; is a great walking and biking path.  We hiked the trail for 3 miles, while birding. The pedestrian bridge crosses the Kicking Horse River and the trail meanders next to the river and exits through residential parts of town. This bridge was a joint project built by Canadian, US and international workers ...

Radium Hot Springs, BC

We arrived at Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia this past Monday.  The trip from Banff was unreal and indescribable.  We immediately knew that it was going to be great when as soon as we left Tran-Canada highway 1 and on to Highway 93 to head South West to Radium and into Kootenay National Park, we encountered a Moose right on the edge of the road. Later while still traveling southwest, we encountered a small heard of Mountain Goats.  Also near the road. Our biggest surprise was the campground.  It is a private (not Provincial) park called Canyon RV Park.  As the name implies, it is at the bottom of a canyon with Sinclair Creek running through it.  It is a hidden gem .  The place is well manicured and beautifully kept.  Sites are well spaced and many with privacy hedges.                                          ...
