Golden, BC
Here we are, on our last day in Golden British Columbia. It is a small town on the western edge of BC. Its population of 3700 residents makes it about 6 times larger than Radium Hot springs. It is a destination town for the residents of BC who Come here to play during all 4 seasons. It is situated between the Columbia Mountains to the west, and Rocky Mountains to the east, as well as the Columbia River and Kicking Horse River.
In town just a block away from IGA (Independent Grocery Store) found in both US and Canada; is a great walking and biking path. We hiked the trail for 3 miles, while birding. The pedestrian bridge crosses the Kicking Horse River and the trail meanders next to the river and exits through residential parts of town.
This bridge was a joint project built by Canadian, US and international workers during 9/11/2001.
Just a few kilometers away, we visited a wolf rescue center. Once the wolves are rehabbed, many are released to Yellowstone National Park :
Unfortunately, most of the resident wolfs were participating on an "adventure walk" with higher paying visitors and "Honi" seen here was the only one awake during our visit.
A farther day trip we made to Emerald Lake. A 50 minute drive (62 km or 39 miles) worth every minute or every mile. The main reason was supposed to be for fishing. As it turned out, this lake is a visitor and tourist destination. Parking was half a mile away and license plates from everywhere as far away as Florida, were present.
The haze seen here is smoke since we travelled eastward
Be glad the wolves were in cages!
ReplyDeletegorgeous views! And how wonderful to have that hiking and biking path. Good job doing 3 miles. That wolf looked miserable by the way. I’m sure he hopes he gets released into the wild soon. I can see why Emerald Lake is such a huge destination spot. It doesn’t even look real. And I’m sure as gorgeous as the photo was it doesn't do it justice. thanks for sharing. Love you guys. hal
