Haines Junction
Continuing the trip north, our next stop was Haines Junction, Yukon Territories.
During this drive we saw 5 or 6 bears like this guy on the road trying to hitch a ride:
One of Canada's largest lakes is Kluane Lake. A huge lake at the base of Boutillier Summit the second highest peak between Whitehorse and Fairbanks.
I want to share of few pictures of the Yukon to serve as a reminder. It certainly was to us. During our drive northward, I mentioned several times how lucky we had been since the roads were fine in Canada unlike we had experienced on our previous trip in 2016. Well, I guess we had forgotten about the Yukon Territories.
Soon after Kluane Lake and past Destruction Bay (another small town on the edge of Kluane Lake; we encountered a road construction project. Here we are following a pilot car through construction site along with many other travelers
Afterwards, we stopped at one of millions of pullouts along the road for a break and lunch. This one turned out to be more beautiful than most. Pickhandle Lake provided a very relaxing setting:
Not long after this break, we encountered another construction project after driving slowly through another terrible section of road and yet, another wait for a pilot guided tour
Finally we arrived at Haines Junction for a one night stop. Hotel had a great view from room and balcony:
Beautiful pictures. So glad you made it through the difficult roads.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery (minus the traffic jam). Travel safe!
ReplyDeleteI can’t help noticing that some of those road conditions look really similar to what we see on interstate 70 in Colorado! Don’t even wanna think about what that does to a vehicle’s mechanics. The mountains are beautiful! Would love to know what those elevations are like. Thanks for sharing! Love you,
