Hinton & Beyond

Hi Guys

It has been a while since our last post.  We have continued to move around Alberta and British Columbia with a slight move northward.  There has not been any earth shattering events to share but will bring you up to date here.

Back on June 21st, we headed to Hinton / Jasper KOA.  This was a very relaxing stay for about 6 days.  It was all planned this way to finish using our supplies in freezer and fridge; prior to placing rig in storage.  The views from the campground were spectacular!  Every morning, we sat outside the trailer, (with our coffee) viewing these mountains.

While at Hinton / Jasper,  we got to see one of several RV Caravans en route to Alaska.  There were many states represented as far away as Florida, Maine and Tennessee.  We met a few of these fellow RVers and got to speak and share experiences.

We went on a couple of adventures while there.  One was the Beaver Boardwalk.  There are supposed to be beavers visible in the pond that has boardwalk trails over it.  The only evidence of them are the dams everywhere.  We had a picnic lunch on that trail.

We also went to the Athabasca River.  We hiked along the trails, through the forest, right next to the river.

We said goodbye to our home, in a locked outdoor storage area of the campground.  It was during a downpour, of course.

The ride from Hinton/Jasper to Dawson Creek, mile marker 0 on the Alcan, was beautiful! The Alcan highway was constructed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, to join Alaska with the continental United States.

We left Alberta again and entered British Columbia.  We had an excellent drive from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Ft. Nelson.  Our host (AirBnB) Surprised us with gift below:

July First is also Canada Day (similar to our 4th of July).  The town was preparing to have a parade.  (We felt it was in our honor)

The drive from Ft. Nelson, B.C. to Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, was full of wildlife!  6 Black Bears, 2 Caribou, 2 coyotes, 2 herds of Wood (Mountain) bison, 3 Mountain Goats and some quail!!  We also encountered thicker smoke for the first time, with a highway posting warning of recent fire activity, including unsafe air and potentially lower visibility. We put our vent on recirculation.   It took about 45 minutes and all evidence of the fire had dissipated. We have now traveled out of the current wildfire areas.  They are much farther south and east of us.

Black Bear

Today, in traveling from Watson Lake, YT to Haines Junction YT, we also saw a lot of wildlife! 5 Black Bears, a Gray Fox and 1 Cayote.  In addition we also passed by a heard of wild horses.  BTW, we discovered that the Alaska Hwy goes into and out of BC and Yukon territories, 7 times!

                                                                                            Marsh Lake

                                                       St. Elias Mountains

Tomorrow we travel to Beaver Creek, YT and Wednesday Alaska.
