Denali

Image
Denali National Park is one of the largest National Parks in the country.  Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, is the highest peak in North America.  With an elevation or summit of 20,310 ft above sea level.  Due to this elevation, it causes it to have its own weather and thus making it very elusive.  When visible it is only briefly.  It can be seen for many miles away and if you're lucky to see it, it is impressive.  If you can see it, you're a member of the 30% club! (visitors who get to view Denali) On our previous trip in 2016 we were fortunate to see it from several angles and distances.  This time we were not so lucky.  You can see that Denali is totally covered in snow.  This is the best we were able to capture from the bus during a short window when it allowed us to see it: Another misfortune of the park, is the narrow road that allows you to travel via bus to the farthest point 92 miles into the park, has collapsed. ...

Alaska

Image
Hi again everyone. Well, we have been in Alaska for a few days now.  We will try to catch you all to current events. Upon entering into the US border, and still on their parking lot, we were stopped by construction crew and waited 20 minutes for pilot car.  Won't bore you guys with more construction pics. A small town en route to Fairbanks we found the following: And the following illustrates what vehicles look like after driving on these roads: Here is one of many mountains, belonging to the Alaskan Range: Fairbanks was a 2 night stop at a beautiful Airbnb just outside of the city.  This stop was mainly to take care of the truck.  It was a stop at Ford for the usual maintenance stuff (Oil change, tire rotation, etc.) An interesting finding from the mechanic: our cab filter and engine air filter needed to be replaced.  The filter pictures the mechanic took, told the story.  They were filthy and one was damaged  due to heavy bumps on the Alcan....

Haines Junction

Image
Continuing the trip north, our next stop was Haines Junction, Yukon Territories. During this drive we saw 5 or 6 bears like this guy on the road trying to hitch a ride: One of Canada's largest lakes is Kluane Lake.  A huge lake at the base of Boutillier Summit the second highest peak between Whitehorse and Fairbanks. I want to share of few pictures of the Yukon to serve as a reminder.  It certainly was to us.  During our drive northward, I mentioned several times how lucky we had been since the roads were fine in  Canada unlike we had experienced on our previous trip in 2016.  Well, I guess we had forgotten about the Yukon Territories. Soon after Kluane Lake and past Destruction Bay (another small town on the edge of Kluane Lake; we encountered a road construction project.  Here we are following a pilot car through construction site along with many other travelers Afterwards, we stopped at one of millions of pullouts along the road for a break and lun...

Hinton & Beyond

Image
Hi Guys It has been a while since our last post.  We have continued to move around Alberta and British Columbia with a slight move northward.  There has not been any earth shattering events to share but will bring you up to date here. Back on June 21st, we headed to Hinton / Jasper KOA.  This was a very relaxing stay for about 6 days.  It was all planned this way to finish using our supplies in freezer and fridge; prior to placing rig in storage.  The views from the campground were spectacular!  Every morning, we sat outside the trailer, (with our coffee) viewing these mountains. While at Hinton / Jasper,  we got to see one of several RV Caravans en route to Alaska.  There were many states represented as far away as Florida, Maine and Tennessee.  We met a few of these fellow RVers and got to speak and share experiences. We went on a couple of adventures while there.  One was the Beaver Boardwalk.  There are supposed to be beavers vi...

Jasper, AB

Image
Hi Everyone Another rainy day.  We only hope that all this rain and snow helps those fires that are affecting this country.   This past Monday we left Golden for a scheduled 4.5 hour drive to Whistler Campground just outside Jasper, AB.  It is the largest provincial parks in Canada.  Something like 710 sites.  It is a gorgeous park.  We stayed here 7 years ago and couldn't wait to comeback.  The park was thick with pine trees and a large heard of Elk lived in the park among the visitors.  Unfortunately, the park was attacked by that terrible beetle that kills the tree.  In order to save the park and surrounding forest,  Canada Parks removed many of the dead and dying trees.  It is a terrible loss and the park is not the same.  You will see below…. So, we left Golden under light rain and it continued for most of the drive.  Temperatures were in the 40s F.  We entered Jasper National Park and everyone was bei...
